Hawai`i is unlike anywhere else, but in business communications, what’s true elsewhere is true here, too:
                          Experience is the difference.

Doug Carlson's background includes nearly four decades involvement with Hawai`i's news media, arguably the broadest media experience among consultants in the Aloha State.  Doug's service with Hawaiian Electric Company and other energy providers has positioned him favorably to consult on public and media affairs for the emerging renewable energy industry. His web log -- Hawaii Energy Options -- covers  Hawai`i's unique dependence on fossil fuels and ongoing activities to reduce it. In 2009, Doug launched, produced and hosted Energy Futures, a "live" hour-long program on Hawai`i energy issues. The show continues 5-6 pm HST each Monday on Hawai`i Public Radio.
"Me and Him Are Killing English!"
The cautionary message for career-minded young adults in Doug's "Me and Him" book is simply this: Leaders in business, education and the professions use correct English, and your career prospects will be enhanced if you do, too.  The Honolulu Star-Bulletin carried an excerpt in 2007, and columnist Charles Memminger added his "lite" touch more recently; the book's website has more information.  ~~  Doug started his "CHORE" blog after the October 2006 Hawai`i earthquakes to focus on the imperative to improve emergency communications.  Another blog -- Tsunami Lessons -- has advocated the use of  international news media to disseminate tsunami warnings.  Hundreds of thousands of people around the Indian Ocean died in December 2004 when existing communications channels failed to warn them of their peril.  Yet another blog  -- Yes2Rail -- supports construction of Honolulu's rail transit system, for which planning is nearly complete.
